CombLine FAQ
What is CombLine?
CombLine is a patented hair enhancement technique that uses a comb-shaped tool and medical-grade glue for a hair-by-hair installation. This process creates an invisible bond between the natural hair and the extension. CombLine extensions provide seamless results where other methods would be noticeable, such as the hairline or crown of the head.
What are the key benefits of CombLine?
-
Seamless Results: The bonds are truly undetectable for a natural look.
-
Versatility: Provides length, volume, and color dimension for all hair types.
-
Comfort: The bonds are lightweight and allow for greater movement.
-
Lightweight: The adhesive is thinner, and each extension uses a very low gram of hair, making the extensions lighter and more flexible.
-
Thin-Hair Friendly: CombLine extensions provide a gentle and secure attachment without straining the natural hair.

What do CombLine extensions look like?
With CombLine, individual hairs are glued directly to the natural hair, making it virtually invisible where the hair ends and the extensions begin. Since CombLine is a technique rather than an extension, the style and quality of the extensions you choose will ultimately impact the final look.
How is CombLine a good solution for thinning hair?
CombLine allows for precise installations in areas with sparse or fine hair. Invisible bonds reduce the need for large sections of hair to conceal the extensions, while the hair-on-hair application eliminates attachment points that could pull on fragile hair.
Which hair types work best with CombLine extensions?
Combline is especially beneficial for individuals with fine or thinning hair or those who have experienced discomfort from extensions. It is perfect for those who want the flexibility to wear a ponytail or change their part without worrying about their extensions being visible.
Are there hair types that don't work well with CombLine?
All hair types can use CombLine—however, guests with very oily hair may encounter bonding challenges. Oils are the main reason bonds may not fully set or shed prematurely. Therefore, it is essential to clarify and thoroughly blow dry the hair to ensure proper bonding during the application. For curly textures, straightening the roots is necessary for optimal bonding.
How do CombLine extensions compare to V-Light® extensions?
V-Light and CombLine both use a comb-like tool for invisible bonds. However, V-Light needs UV light to cure the bonds, adding time to the installation. Additionally, V-Light's adhesive is thicker, while CombLine's adhesive is thinner and more flexible, allowing for a better blend with natural hair.
COMBLINE APPLICATION
How do you apply extensions with CombLine?
When considering applying extensions with CombLine, think of it like getting eyelash extensions, where each strand is applied directly to the natural lash. CombLine is a technique that connects the extension to the hair itself.
Certified CombLine stylists can install extensions by following these steps:
- Start by clarifying the natural hair because any oil or product buildup can act as a barrier to the adhesive.
- Dry the hair thoroughly.
- Prepare for the installation by cutting off the application point of your chosen extension.
- Section off a small portion of hair that matches the extension density. Use an extension shield clipped in place to isolate this section and control flyaways.
- Carefully align the extension over the natural hair.
- Moving upward, run the applicator comb through the extension and natural hair, avoiding the scalp.
- Apply the adhesive by brushing the glue applicator against the hair in an upward direction.
- If additional adhesive is required, repeat step 6.
- Finally, smooth the extension with the applicator brush to ensure a seamless blend.
Can I apply a full head of extensions using CombLine?
Yes, you can apply a full head of extensions using CombLine; however, it is more common to target specific areas such as the hairline, part, and crown.
What type of hair extensions can I install using the CombLine technique?
You can use any BELLAMI Hair Extensions since you will cut off the attachment point before application.
Are there certain BELLAMI Hair Extensions that work best with CombLine?
CombLine is compatible with all BELLAMI Hair Extensions. However, since the application uses small sections, we recommend methods with similar placement styles, such as Tape-In or K-Tip. This helps streamline the process and minimize hair waste.
Can I combine CombLine extensions with other applications?
Yes, you can combine CombLine with other extension application methods.
How long does a typical CombLine installation take?
The process takes about 1-2 hours.
Can CombLine extensions be reused?
No, similar to K-Tip, Combline doesn’t allow the reuse of hair.
EXTENSION LONGEVITY & CARE
How long do CombLine extensions last?
Results from CombLine can last up to 8 weeks with proper application and care. The extensions will gradually shed, similar to natural hair, so it’s recommended that your guests come in for maintenance approximately every 4 weeks. After 6 months, it’s time for a fresh application.
What if there are some hair extensions still intact at the 6-month reapplication?
Any hair that remains when it is time for a new application can be removed with a gentle solvent.
How can guests maintain their CombLine extensions at home?
Share these care tips with your guests to ensure their CombLine extensions last their full lifespan:
Immediate Aftercare (First 24 Hours)
To allow the adhesive to bond and set fully:
- Avoid washing
- No hot tools or chemical treatments
- Avoid touching or pulling at the bonds
Regular Maintenance
-
Washing: After 24 hours, gently wash hair with a sulfate-free shampoo. Washing 2 to 3 times a week is ideal to reduce stress on the bonds.
-
Conditioning: After cleansing, apply conditioner from mid-length to the ends. Use a leave-in conditioner or lightweight serum to keep hair and extensions soft and tangle-free, avoiding bonds to prevent slippage.
-
Drying: Ensure hair is completely dry before brushing or sleeping. Use a low setting on a blow dryer if the hair is damp.
-
Brushing: Use a soft-bristle brush and start from the ends working upwards, avoiding the bonds.
-
Heat Protection: Always use a heat protectant when styling and avoid applying heat directly to the bonds.
Sleeping and Exercising
-
Sleeping: Tie hair back in a loose braid or ponytail to prevent tangling and consider a silk pillowcase for less friction.
-
Exercising: Tie hair back in a loose braid or ponytail to reduce pressure on the bonds, especially when sweating or swimming.
Swimming and Sun Exposure
-
Chlorine and saltwater: Chlorine and saltwater exposure can damage hair. Mix a deep conditioning mask with water and apply it before swimming. After, thoroughly wash and condition hair.
-
Avoid product buildup: Regularly cleanse hair to prevent product buildup from oils, sunscreen, or styling products, which can affect bond longevity.
What happens if a bond becomes loose?
If a bond becomes loose, have your guest come in for a quick fix or reapplication. Advise them against pulling or picking at the bonds, as this can weaken them. Also, advise them to avoid any oil-based products at the attachment.
